The Quercus Gradebook can help you collect and organize student grades and feedback and share this information with students. Through the Gradebook, instructors, teaching assistants and course staff can:

  • Review and download the class list,
  • Add and edit student grades and feedback,
  • Share information with students about their performance in the course, and
  • Calculate final course grades.

Instructors and TAs can access the Gradebook by selecting Grades from the course menu. Students can access their individual grades and feedback through their Grades page and by accessing individual Assignments. Students only see their own grades and will never see the grades of any other students through Quercus.

Gradebook Considerations

  • Grade columns are automatically created for assignments, quizzes, and other graded items you create (such as Graded Discussion Boards).  Columns also can be created manually as needed (e.g., for items that will be handed in during class).
  • Columns can be re-ordered by clicking on a column header and dragging it to a new position.
  • Students will only ever see their own grades and will never see the grades of any other students through Quercus.
  • By default the Grade Posting Policy is set to "Manually post Grades", meaning that assignment grades will be hidden to students as soon as they are entered.
  • There is a feature in Gradebook that allows you to set up late penalties.  There are several things to be aware of before using this feature:
    • The penalty is applied automatically to all students
    • The penalty is calculated on the full marks for the assignment (what it is out of, not what they receive as a grade).
    • To calculate the penalty, Quercus rounds up the to the next whole day. This means that an assignment submitted 1 day and 1 minute late will receive the penalty for being 2 days late.
  • Currently, only one grader at a time should enter grades in the Gradebook.
  • If TAs will be grading students in specific tutorials, it is possible to restrict TA Gradebook access to only the students in the tutorial they will be grading, if the Quercus course has been cross-listed with other LEC, TUT or PRA sections.

The Gradebook can be used to download a class list
Note:  It takes 24-48 hours for any enrolment changes in ACORN (formerly known as ROSI) to be reflected in Quercus.

Gradebook and ACORN

Students should understand that the Grades area in Quercus gives them early access to preliminary grades, and does not represent their official final marks. By default, the Total grade column is hidden from students in Quercus, and final grades must not be shared with students through the Gradebook. Final grades should only be posted through ACORN (formerly known as ROSI). Quercus Gradebook Reports

As an instructor, you have access to Quercus Course Data and Reports (e.g., the Access Report, Gradebook data, Quiz Logs).
