You can use Quercus to run quizzes (tests) and surveys in your course. These tools provide a simple and easy way to poll students, check their knowledge and skills, and provide feedback on their learning.

Note: Until further notice we are recommending using Classic Quizzes and NOT using the New Quizzes feature in Quercus, as there are persistent issues with it.

Quizzes

"Quizzes" are recommended for graded or practice tests. Correct answers for automatically graded question types can be set and submissions will be tied to individual students. Graded tests show up in the Gradebook will practice tests (ie. un-graded) do not. Quercus Quizzes are not integrated with Turnitin.

As an instructor, you can moderate a quiz (e.g., unlock a quiz, provide extensions, etc.). You can also access Quiz Statistics, Quiz Analysis Reports, Gradebook data and Quiz Logs.

Some examples of how Quizzes are being used by UTM instructors:

  • Pre-tutorial quizzes, Syllabus review tests, Academic Integrity tests
  • Video responses using file upload (1 - 2 minute video)
  • Self-check, Background knowledge check, Readings review

 

Surveys

"Surveys" are recommend for feedback or other types of responses that do not involve right or wrong answers. You have the option of making a survey graded to give students full marks for completion. Graded surveys show up in the Gradebook will un-graded surveys do not.

You have the option to make a graded or ungraded survey anonymous, you will need to check the box next to "Keep Submissions Anonymous". 
Note: Because this option can be un-clicked at any time and the responses then retro-actively linked to their submitters, surveys are not truly anonymous in Quercus.
